I don’t know whether I have backups or not.
My only backup is OneDrive/SharePoint.
I want to improve my disaster recovery planning.
Have your IT environment automatically backed up to the cloud – minimal downtime if something goes wrong.
A backup isn’t a backup until it’s been successfully restored. Make sure your stored data is actually usable with regular testing.

Backups and archives are different things. A backup is designed to be restored if needed. An archive, on the other hand, normally contains data held to meet specific legal requirements. They’re designed to be read, not restored.

It’s the best way for larger organisations to protect their data. For most SMBs, though, the 3-2-1 rule (which also complies with Essential Eight Maturity Level 2) is enough.
Think of backups like any other form of insurance. It’s not about how often you make a claim. It’s about what happens if something goes wrong and you aren’t covered.
If your business can operate without any of your current data, you probably don’t need backups. If it’s like most modern organisations, though, your data is probably critical – and you need a backup strategy that reflects that criticality.
Keep in mind that your cyber insurance provider may actually require backups. If you don’t have a compliant strategy, any claim you make could be denied under the exclusions clause in your PDS.
We use Veeam as our primary technology partner for backups. It’s one of the most industry-trusted vendors and its pricing is extremely reasonable (which keeps your per-seat costs down). Just as importantly, it can automatically back up your system to almost any location, including the cloud and remote servers.
